Water Quality Report makes the Case for Filtered Water
If you drink bottled water and care about the quality of your water, you may want to see the San Diego Water Quality report. A new Water Quality report was recently sent out to residents and we will post it here. Pesticides are not included in either report and are only tested in the water supply approximately every five (5) years. Recently, the city has added fluoride to our water supply. While Fluoride is beneficial to growing children in their toothpaste, it is somewhat controversial as a water additive when there are already so many additives to our water. We are so much more fortunate than those countries with contaminated water, but the question that we ask is: Will drinking our tap water help us stay healthy? We believe that drinking filtered water is something that you should do for optimal health.
This 2009 report is silent on pesticides yet this is also something that you may want removed with your water filter. And it is even more relevant now that more San Diego water has been coming from the agricultural areas of Northern California.
If you are interested in improving your health you likely drink a lot of water. Contact us if you would like more information on filters to remove particles and chemicals in your water so that the water you drink optimizes your health.
At
Powers, we wanted to be able to address this for all of our clients so
we sent in water samples from Mission Hills households and from our
office to be analyzed. Then we customized a filter system to address our
local needs with a water filter and conditioner that would address the
hard water problems for the whole house. We recommend a whole house
water system because of the benefits of bathing and drinking, as well as
for the condition of your pipes and water using appliances. Whole house
filters in conjunction with a drinking water system for taste and
odor/chlorine and other additives like fluoride will give you all of the
benefits of a conditioner system without the water waste or salt
additives. Lead Law compliance for all your Home Renovations
In 2010, Powers Plumbing became certified with the EPA
and the City of San Diego to comply with lead laws that effect all
contractors who work at your house.
Lead laws impact all residential projects. The idea is to protect residents from lead exposure during plumbing, painting or other construction repairs. It affects all homes that were built before 1978 and comes into play when the plumber or contractor needs to open a wall space six square feet inside or 20 square feet outside. If these conditions exist, then the plumber must be certified to open the wall. The safety measures taken by the certified contractor are the same types of measures that we have taken for years on the job site. They include isolating the area and removing debris from the site. We want you to be aware of these new procedures that we will follow to comply with the new laws.
Here are three points to provide to a contractor if you are having renovation work done.
1. Is the house built before 1978? Many of the houses in central San
Diego were built before 1978. This law is to provide protection from
lead exposure. If the house has been renovated since 1978 and lead has
already been removed then the new regulations would not apply.
2 Is the resident pregnant or are there any children under age 6 present on a regular basis or is this a school/preschool? These populations are more susceptible to lead so additional precautions may be necessary.
3. Is the situation an emergency? If there is a plumbing emergency it can be dealt with.
Call us for more information about any project that requires opening up a wall space so that it is handled in the proper manner. Homeowners or tenants should receive an informational pamphlet called Renovate Right.
